Tracking Companies Office Updates
The Updates section in Connectworks provides a near real-time feed of changes published by the New Zealand Companies Office. This allows you and your firm to stay informed about any public updates that affect the companies you manage.
This includes other Companies where you have imported a Corporate Trustee Company as a Trustee to your Trust, and another firm manages that Trustee Company.
What the Updates Section Shows
- All public changes from the Companies Office are displayed here.
- The only exception is Communication Address changes, which the Companies Office treats as private and therefore does not publish.
- Each update shows:
- The Company name
- The time the change was made
- A short description of the change
- A link to the Companies Office website, where you can view the official record
How Updates Are Delivered

Connectworks automatically polls the Companies Office throughout the day to fetch any new updates.

When a new update arrives, a badge appears on the Updates tab, showing the number of new records not yet seen by anyone in your firm.

Once you open the Updates section, these new records are clearly marked with a “NEW” label.

The number of “NEW” labels matches the number shown on the badge.
Recommended Workflow
The Updates section is designed to make it easy to review and action changes quickly:

A number on the Updates tab indicates that new Companies Office changes have just been fetched.

Open the Updates section
-
Inside, new updates are clearly flagged with a “NEW” label.

Review the updates
-
Skim through the list of changes.
- You can click the Companies Office link to review the notification, understand the change that has occurred for this Company, and take any necessary steps.

If no action is needed, simply move on.

Action required updates
-
For example, if a company name has changed, select the record.

In the right-hand slide-out menu, click edit profile to update the company in Connectworks immediately - without leaving the Updates section.

You can also choose open (to go directly to the company profile) or simply click the company name.

Clear the new labels

Once you’ve reviewed the updates, just navigate away from the Updates section.

This clears both the “New” labels and the badge counter.

The next time new events arrive, the cycle starts again.

✅ Tip: The Updates section works best as a quick “check and action” tool. Review new updates when the badge appears, take any necessary steps, then move on - Connectworks will notify you again when new updates arrive.
Additional Features

Use the filter options in the left-hand menu to narrow down the updates displayed.

From the “I would like to…” menu, you can export the current list of updates for your records.
By default, notifications from the past 2 months are displayed. You can customise what you see by applying the available filters.
Update Types and Filtering
The Update type filter, located in the left-hand menu, allows you to narrow down the list of updates by category. Each filter groups together related types of changes from the Companies Office.
The table below shows each filter option and the specific updates it includes. It also provides a complete reference of the changes you can expect to see:

Change Information is available in the slide-out
In some updates from the Companies Office, we receive new values that reflect the changes. By selecting a notification, users can view these updated values directly and make any necessary changes. Below are some of the key notifications that will assist users.
Addresses
This will display the address, and in some cases, the pending address. When a historical address is present, you can select the drop-down arrow to see the previous addresses.
Directors
Users will now see the change in Directorship in the slide-out, including the Directors ' start and end dates. Historical directors are available by clicking on the arrow.
Name
In the slideout, users will see the new name of the Company. Here you can copy the new name of the Company, then select the three dots and edit profile allowing you to update the company name in Connectworks, without leaving the Updates gallery.
Status
In the slideout, users will see the updated status of the Company.
For other notifications, the information will appear in the slide-out panel, similar to what is shown in the screenshots.
